Emerling wins Ol’ Boy Cup 60 at Lancaster

Patrick Emerling
Orchard Park’s Patrick Emerling picked up his sixth win of the season at Lancaster National Speedway on Thursday night, June 30, capturing the second annual Ol’ Boy Cup 60 Bill Colton Memorial for the Race of Champions Modified Series presented by Thermal Foams. Eric Brown (Street Stocks), Tommy Catalano (TQ Midgets) and Kevin Bainbridge (4-Cylinders) also picked up wins Thursday night.

Emerling started fifth in the 25-car field and inherited the lead from Chuck Hossfeld on Lap 36 after Hossfeld pulled off the track with an apparent mechanical issue. Emerling won the RoC Modified event at Lancaster back in May, and also has four Sportsman wins at the track in 2016. He has three wins on the RoC tour this season.

Eric Brown (48) and Terry Weldy (22)
Darren Scherer finished second, followed by Mike Leaty in third. Tyler Rypkema and Daryl Lewis Jr. rounded out the top five.

Brown took win in the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks in his first start of the season at Lancaster, coming from the 12th starting position to pass Terry Weldy for the lead with just three laps to go. Weldy finished a close second followed by Jerome Hruby, Tommy Wentland and Jarrod Brown.

Kevin Bainbridge
Bainbridge picked up his fifth win of the season in the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders. Bainbridge took the lead during a caution on Lap 8 when then-leader Chris Pennell pitted with a flat tire. Bainbridge led the final 17 laps to score the win. Tim Durfy finished second with Rich Bartel, Jason Anasiewicz and Dan Dressel rounding out the top five.

In the NYPA TQ Midgets, Kyle Hutchinson led the first 19 laps and looked to be on his way victory until Tommy Catalano gave him the “bump-n-run” in Turn 4 on the final lap to steal the win. It was Catalano’s second Lancaster win in less than a week after winning the Sunoco Sportsman feature on Saturday, June 25.
