Orchard Park’s Patrick Emerling picked up his fourth Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series win of the season in Saturday night’s Thunder in the Hills 100 at Holland International Speedway. Tom Northem from Alden scored his first Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Charger feature of the season, while Michele Maltby from West Seneca earned her first career win in the Bank of Holland Hornets. Dave Wollaber from North Tonawanda scored his third NYPA TQ Midget feature win of the season.

Brian DeFebo and Mike Leaty shared the front row for the RoC feature, with Leaty showing the way early on. DeFebo regained the lead from Leaty on Lap 27, with Jimmy Zacharias running in third. Zacharias took the lead on Lap 30 and continued his advantage as Emerling and George Skora III worked their way into the top five. Andy Jankowiak moved from 18th on the grid to third by Lap 60. A restart on Lap 62 had Zacharias and Emerling on the front row with Zacharias showing the way until Emerling took over the lead on Lap 86. Emerling then pulled away for the win, with Zacharias, Jankowiak, Skora and Leaty completing the top five.

“This a good win for us,” said Emerling in victory lane. “We set the car up for the longer runs and to help conserve our tires. Our laps during the race were very consistent and we never backed up too far and that helped us maintain and move forward in the end. It’s really a testament of the team that we have here. They do an incredible job. Jimmy (Zacharias) raced us clean and I respect that. It’s been a great year for us so far, I hope we can keep the momentum rolling.”

Northem led from the pole on his way to the win in the Getzoni Nationwide Insurance Agency NASCAR Pro Chargers feature, followed by Mark Hoch, Nik Welshans, Tim Welshans and Josh Hathaway. Maltby held off Kathie Ricketson to pick up her first career win, with Louis Carbone, Jeff Szafraniec and Donald Palmer completing the top five. Wollaber led Kyle Hutchinson to the checkered flag, followed by Erik Musto, Vinnie Christiano Jr. and Charlie DiRosa.

Next Saturday is Coca-Cola Night at the Races featuring the midseason championships for the NYPA TQ Midgets. The Getzoni Agency Pro Chargers will run twin features, with the Hornets, Figure 8’s, Rookie 4’s and INEX Legends will round out the racing card. Grandstand gates open at 5:45 p.m., with qualifying getting underway at 6 p.m. and   feature racing scheduled to go green at 7:05 p.m. Find out more at
