Ladies Night at Lancaster National Dragway

Friday night’s Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing program at Lancaster National Dragway was also Ladies Night, headlined by the Queen of Diamonds Jet Dragster, piloted by 24-year-old Sarah Edwards of Stamford, CT. Edwards blistered Lancaster’s 1/8-mile drag strip with 3.76-second run at 198.01 mph in her final pass of the night.
Two winners in ladies’ only drag racing action picked up a 1/4-carat diamond ring courtesy of Cash & Go Pawn. In the Ladies Pro class, for experienced racers, Annmarie Nugent of West Seneca picked up the win and the ring over Stacy Budinger. The Ladies Amateur class featured 19 drivers trying their hand at drag racing, with Jay Grimes-Davis of Cheektowaga taking home the winner’s ring over Sara Taulbee.
In regular Franco’s Pizza Friday night action, Jamie Stoneman of Clarence topped the bracket in Top 8 with a win over Michael Mallare, who red-lighted in the finals. Jason Sobzysnki of Lancaster held off Bill Balser Jr. to win Mallare Enterprises Top ET.
Defending track champion Dale Eckert picked up his third win of the year in McGard Mod ET after his opponent, Robert Hetrick, broke out by the closest of margins in the finals. Brian Babiak of Elma won Hebeler’s Sales Sleds & Bikes after a red light by Mike Peters. Second generation racer Mason Fix of Amherst picked up the win in Tread City Tire Street ET over Cody Winkowski.
Drag racing action at Lancaster continues on Friday, June 24 with the second race of the season for Quick 16 and a special event for Tread City Tire Street; Top, Mod and Sleds & Bikes will also be in action, with time trials beginning at 5 p.m. Find out more at www.lancasternationalspeedway.com.
