McPherson wins inaugural RoC Sportsman 602 race at Humberstone

St. Catharines, Ontario’s Cody McPherson won the 50-lap Ferris Mowers Race of Champions (RoC) Sportsman 602 Series fueled by Sunoco Race Fuels main event Sunday at the New Humberstone Speedway. Jeff Dayman from Welland, Ontario earned his first career win in the Pinty’s RUSH Late Models, while Jason Fontaine from Port Colborne, Ontario picked up the win in the JC Auto Street Stocks. Dillon Llord from St. Catharines won in the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks and Brandon Iudiciani from Welland won in the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks.

Brad Rouse and Adam Leslie shared the front row for the start of the RoC Sportsman 50-lap feature, with McPherson battling Leslie for second and finally completing the pass on Lap 13. McPherson passed Rouse on Lap 28 to take over the lead for the rest of the race. McPherson held off challenges from Chad Chevalier during the final eight laps to pick up the victory. Rouse finished third, followed by Jay Mallory and Leslie to complete the top five.

Sam Pennacchio and John McIntire led the Pinty’s RUSH Late Model field to the green flag with Pennacchio showing the way on the opening lap. Jeff Dayman took over the lead on Lap 7 and hold on for the win, the first of his Late Model career at Humberstone. Paul Grigsby finished second ahead of Dennis Lunger Jr., Pennacchio and Rob Pietz.

Jason Fontaine and Kyle Pelrine led the JC Auto Street Stocks field to the green flag with Fontaine leading the entire way to score the win over Bill Bleich Jr. and Dave Bailey. Vince Fargnoli and Brad Sheehan rounded out the top five.

Danny Wurster and Craig Vlasic made up the front row of the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks field, with Vlasic showing the way early. Dillon Llord moved into second and passed Vlasic for the race lead Lap 3, leading the rest of the way. Frank Perry, Andy Imbeault, Mitch Dumont and Vlasic completed the top five.

Iudiciani took the lead early on in the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks and never looked back, holding off Garnet Wilson to score the win. Kyle Haynes, Evan Curtis, and Olivier Larocque rounded out the top five.

71 cars signed in pitside for opening day festivities at Humberstone, which returns to action on Sunday, May 15 as PC Works presents the first Duel on the Dirt race for the JC Auto Street Stocks. The PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman, Pinty’s RUSH Late Models, Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks, Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks and the Vintage Cars will also be on the racing card.
