Michael Mallare, Thomas Fletcher, Dale Eckert, John Cira Jr. and Alan Fletcher took home wins Friday night at Lancaster National Dragway, which finally kicked off its 2016 season. The start to the season was pushed back after less than favorable weather conditions in April delayed the start of the dragstrip resurfacing project. A large portion of Lancaster’s 1/8-mile dragstrip received a brand new concrete surface to provide a smooth track for competitors.
Mallare became the first winner in the all new Quick 8 class. Quick 8 takes the four fastest doorslammers and dragsters from Top ET and puts them on a special ladder. Mallare's 1927 Ford defeated the S-10 pickup truck of Jamie Stoneman in the final round.
Mallare also nearly took home a second win in Mallare Enterprises Top ET. His .499 reaction time in the final round was .001-seconds too quick and he triggered the red light, handing the win to Thomas Fletcher. Fletcher is the son of 96-time NHRA National Event winner Dan Fletcher.
Dale Eckert continued his winning ways from last season in McGard Mod ET, as the defending class champion took the opening day win over John Cira Jr. Cira Jr. was able to pick up the win in Tread City Tire Street after Chris Kujawski broke in the finals.
Alan Fletcher picked up the win Hebeler’s Sales Sleds & Bikes, besting Rob Brandel in the final round.
Friday night drag racing continues at Lancaster on May 13, as the Buffalo Street Outlaws join Lancaster’s four weekly classes. Time trials begin at 4:30 p.m. Keep up with the action at www.lancasternationalspeedway.com.
