The annual appearance of Al Hanna’s Jet Funny Cars at Lancaster National Dragway heated up an already-warm evening on Friday, as Hanna’s Eastern Raider and Gojo Firebird Funny Cars both broke the 200 mph barrier in less than four seconds.
The Joe’s Transmission TNT Hot Rod Super Series made its first visit of the season to Lancaster, with Mark Herbold of Elma taking the win over Tom Reed in the finals. Zell Gaymon of Buffalo picked up the win in Top 8, while Rick Szewczyk Jr. of Chaffee scored his first win of the year in Mallare Enterprises Top ET.
In McGard Mod ET, Reid Ricketson of Darien Center won for the second-straight week, defeating John Cira Jr. in the finals. Cira Jr. then came back to get the win in Tread City Tire Street, marking the second time this season Cira Jr. lost in the Mod final but won Street. Rob Brandel of Williamsville took down Patrick Vaughan in Hebeler’s Sales Sleds & Bikes, breaking the three-race winning streak of Alan Fletcher.
Lancaster National Dragway’s schedule picks up over the next couple weeks, beginning this Tuesday, May 31, with the start of the season for our K100/Bauer Racing Junior Dragsters, Senior Nostalgia class and Teen Championship Racing as part of Advance Auto Parts Test n’ Tune Tuesdays.
On Friday, June 4 the Buffalo Street Outlaws return to Lancaster with two classes of racing plus our weekly Franco’s Pizza IHRA Drag Racing classes. On Tuesday, June 7, the second annual Pro Modified Shootout will also feature a Box/No-Box Shootout for our weekly racers.
