Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario is introducing a new event to open the 2016 season: Dawn of Destruction, scheduled for Sunday, April 24 and beginning at 1 p.m., with sponsorship from Tidyman Maintenance.
Pit gates will open at 9 a.m., with the spectator grandstand gates opening at 11 a.m. Grandstand prices will be $10 for adults and seniors, $5 for kids 8 to 12 years old, and free for kids 7 and under. The pit gate price is $50 and includes car, driver and scorer for the Enduro.
The Enduro will feature two 30-lap segments each paying $100 to win with a break in between. The top five from each segment will then line up at the front of the final 15-lap segment, which pays $500 to win, $250 for second and $125 for third.
Also new to the event will be the construction crush-off championship. Fans will see top equipment operators as they battle for the first Dawn of Destruction Construction Crush-Off Championship.
The event will also feature a Ladies Race, Backwards Race, Figure 8, Enduro-Cross, Side-by-Side Race and the Roll-Over Contest throughout the afternoon. The Backwards Race, Figure 8, Enduro-Cross and the Side-by-Side Race will each pay $250 to win, $125 for second and $100 for third. The Ladies Race payout will be based on car count.
As part of the on track activities, drivers from two of Humberstone’s weekly classes, the DIRTcar Sportsman and the Street Stocks will be racing in an Invitational Demonstration. “This is a great way to show our new fans the great action we have going on here every Sunday Night in the summer,” said Humberstone Speedway General Manager Bob Davidson. Any Humberstone Speedway race teams whose cars are ready for the season are encouraged to show off their racing machines and sign autographs prior to the Dawn of Destruction.
Stock car racing returns to Humberstone on Sunday, May 1, featuring the DIRTcar Sportsman, RUSH Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Pro 4 Trucks. Race time is 6:30 p.m. A full schedule for the 2016 season can be found at www.humberstonespeedway.com.
